a photographer - a teacher - travelling on a remarkable journey across Australia

and we begin
Our WA journey started years ago, perhaps as far back as 2011 when, in October 2011, I contacted an old friend, Jeremy the photographer, for advice about which camera to buy for a school trip to Italy. As an expert, experienced photographer, Jeremy was my go-to hotline for advice.
I followed his suggestions, bought a Canon, shot a bunch of beautiful images and, several months later, reconnected with him in a way that has us today embarking on our Australia sojourn.
How will two very different people travel together? Very well, if our Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Italy, India and Australian east coast trips are anything to go by.
The prep has primarily been the domain of Jeremy. He’s undertaken the mammoth task of organising the vehicle, and driving (pardon the obvious pun) all bookings and scheduling. I am generally focused on what is right in front of me, anything that I have to do in the next 24 hours or things I should have completed on yesterday’s to-do list.
We make a great team.
It has been an epic effort to simply arrive at this point, with us ready to hit the road later this week. I may share these details later as I reflect on the process.
In the short term, that is in the next few days, Jeremy is finishing up shooting in Sydney and having a birthday; we have caught up with a few people over the past week and weekend before I head down to the in-laws in the NSW Southern Highlands to turn the fridges on, pack them with some frozen meals we have cooked (such as lamb ragu, the mandatory bolognese, a Sri Lankan beef curry), and get the Prado ready to hit the road on Thursday.
I will share with you some of the experiences we enjoy, the challenges we will no doubt encounter, cultural observations, interactions with the incredible Australian landscape, reflections and thoughts over the next few months. And of course, I am hoping to take some more beautiful photos, still under the expert tutelage of Jeremy.
